The award-winning Manufacturing Engineering Centre (MEC) forms part of University of Wales Cardiff, one of Britain’s major teaching and research universities.
The MEC is a designated Centre of Excellence in Manufacturing Engineering under two different programmes. The MEC's track record of successful collaboration with industry has culminated in a number of major prizes and awards, including the DTI Secretary of State's first prize and the Queen's Anniversary prize.
The MEC is the Co-coordinator for the 3 projects, including “Multi-Material Micro Manufacture: Technologies and Applications (4M)” FP 6 NoE. The main aim of 4M is to develop Micro- and Nano- Technology for the batch-manufacture of micro components and devices in a variety of materials into user-friendly production equipment, processes and manufacturing platforms. A contact will be maintained with other related centres of excellence outside of the network.
A 4M web-site will act as a portal for the centre, clusters and partners to spread knowledge, results and best practice. 4M will publish of a quarterly 4M newsletter, carrying news of 4M user-oriented activities.
For spreading the Excellence, 4M will organize 60 regional awareness events across Europe. Also, links will be established with the other IPs and NoEs in FP 6, including the organisation of joint events.
