The mission of the centre consists in R&D in micro- and nanotechnologies, technology transfer, education, training, dissemination and development of the national strategy in the field, playing a national role through networking and partnership. KTU-RCMN participates in FP6 projects (ImPart project "Nanoparticles for environment and health") and NEXUS FP 5 network. The research domains, in correlation with FP6, are:

- Nanostructured materials, nanotechnologies and nanostructures;
- Microstructures and microsytems for sensing applications;
- Micro/nanostructures for biomedical applications.

KTU-RCMN is the Coordinator of National Nanoscience and Nanotechnology programme 2002-2006 and also the Coordinator of the Lithuanian Nanoscience and Nanotechnology network. KTU-RCMN is the organizer of some international conferences .
